Just because you pay more for a new car doesn’t always guarantee you get better reliability for the extra cost. Typically as a group, the inexpensive smaller cars and the popular midsized family sedans tend to be the most reliable.

Not surprisingly the smaller cars tend to stand out. There are 20 of 37 small cars that have above average predicted reliability scores associated with them. Next – family cars do almost as well as the smaller cars, with 21 out of 41 having an above average score.

Some examples:
1. The Volkswagen Touareg is almost 27 times more likely to have a problem than one of the most reliable cars – the Honda Insight.
2. Amazingly the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan beat the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in quality and least likely to have a problem.
3. The Pontiac Vibe (the V8 version of the Pontiac G8) and the Saturn Aura have above average reliability.
4. Asian cars with high reliability – Toyota has 18, Honda has 8, Nissan has 4, and Hyundai/Kia and Subaru have three each.

In conclusion – there’s really no magic for finding a reliable car. Simply do plenty of research ahead of time and always ensure that you have an extended warranty for your car 😉
